RTX 4090 vs 3090 4K Gaming Performance

We are testing out the Nvidia RTX 4090 vs 3090 on all the latest games at 4K to check out their gaming performance difference.

Recently Nvidia launched the all-new Geforce RTX 4090. Here is a full review of the RTX 4090 if you are interested. With the new GPU, Nvidia ensures that all modern games will run better and faster with their latest RTX GPU.

The new DirectX Ultimate supports Ray Tracing and Variable Rate Shading and packs much more power. This is a 384bit card and takes up to three slots on your motherboard, so you might know by now how big of a card it is. The power draw is rated at 450W through a 16-pin power connector. It features 1 HDMI 2.1 and 3 DisplayPort 1.4a and comes for $1599.

The RTX 3090 is an enthusiast card that was released back in 2020. This is the smaller brother of the RTX 3090Ti. It features the same hardware but slightly lower specifications than the 3090Ti, like lower base clocks, boost clocks, shading units, RT Cores, Tensor Cores, Pixel Rate, Texture rate etc., but it is still a competent card, even at 4K!

So without further delay, let’s quickly check out the Gaming performance difference between the RTX 4090 and the RTX 3090 at 4K!

4090 vs 3090 Final Thoughts

From the above performance numbers that we can see, it is pretty much evident that the RTX 4090 is almost twice as fast as the last generation RTX 3090. All the games ranging from the older titles like the Shadow of Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs Legion etc., showed a similar performance behaviour.

The newer games like Dying Light 2 and Far Cry 6 showed a performance difference nearly double that of the RTX 3090. Both the GPUs are excellent and kept the performance at 60FPS with ultra-high settings except for Cyberpunk 2077, which we already know is not much optimized. But other than that, all the games have an average performance above 60FPS.

If you are currently using an RTX 3090, we suggest you either wait for the RTX 4090Ti or entirely skip the 4000 Series GPUs. Instead, you can wait for the RTX 5000 Series Graphics cards, i.e. RTX 5090 or the RTX 5090Ti. Also, the new Windows 12 might be in the news next year, and we are yet to see what brings in gamers.

If you are building a new PC and want to own the flagship Nvidia RTX 4090, you have to shell out at least $1599 or higher. And it is only worth it if you build a new Gaming PC.

So this was all about RTX 4090 vs RTX 3090. If you have anything to add, feel free to comment down below.

That’s all, folks!
