MSI Sword Laptop Review – first White MSI Gaming laptop

This is the first time that MSI released a Gaming laptop that is in White. Nowadays white laptops are not very much common. Last time we saw a white colored MSI Laptop that was the last Generation Prestige 14 but that was an Ultrabook. While ROG also had white laptops in their arsenal, I think its the perfect time that they released the MSI Sword Laptop series.

A modern refresh of the last generation GF65 but in white color variant with added blue-backlit keyboard adds that liking factor about the laptop aesthetically. MSI’s Sword 15 & Sword 17 is one of the best-looking laptops in the series.

Design and Aesthetics

The MSI Sword Laptop 15 and 17 comes in White color. This is the first time MSI released a Gaming Laptop in white. And the Sword as the name suggests it is very thin and sharp. The top of the lid is full white the MSI Dragon logo inscribed in silver. MSI has redesigned the whole laptop and made it look much more sharp and futuristic. The sleek radiators on the side and a newly designed radiator at the back gives it a much more professional as well as a powerful look.

This time MSI in their Sword 15 and Sword 17 has implemented full-sized keyboards. This is actually a big upgrade from the last year’s GF65 models which all had the Tenkey-less keyboards. These laptops looks a lot like the older GF65 but its way thinner and a very attractive-looking piece of hardware. We should give credit to MSI to release a white Gaming Laptop with a full-size blue-backlit keyboard that can be used anywhere and even in business meetings. There are two variants, the 15.6″ Sword 15 & the 17.3″ Sword 17.

Display

Talking about the display of the MSI Sword Laptop 15 & 17. Both of them sports a Full HD 1080p display with a refresh rate of 144Hz. But there are some variants with the 60Hz display also. They are not color calibrated displays as those displays dosen’t come in under laptops of this price range. But the colors on the Sword series laptops are very bright and vibrant. For gaming and entertainment, these displays provide the best value among the other laptops of this category.

  1. My first MSI 17 Sword was a problem with memory execution errors that affected the printing operation. Nothing would be sent to the print cue from the laptop, but from another source via the internet I could print. So the printer was fine. the laptop had Kingston memory. I had a very difficult time and never got thru to MSI about the problem, and the laptop was 3 months new since purchase. So much for 1 year manufacturer customer support. Eventually I received an email telling me to return back to merchant, as which I did. Got another Sword 17 of same specs, but !! with Micron memory. Much better without a single problem. Conclusion Kingston memory NO GOOD…
