Build Quality & Design
The MSI Modern 14 B4MW is a sleek ultrabook type of laptop. It is made up of anodized aluminum which makes the device extremely Thin, light and Portable. It weighs around 1.3Kgs and is considered to be one of the lightest laptops on the market. This laptop comes in two colors, Black and Bluestone.
We personally loved the Black color design because it gives a very premium look and finishes which is not available in any other laptop at this price range. The display ensures that you have a 90% screen-to-body ratio i.e the bezels are extremely thin, and unlike some other brands, MSI didn’t forget to include the Webcam on the thin Bezels itself and the quality is more than enough for normal Skype or any other forms of Video Calling. Also sports a 180-degree rotatable panel with a hotkey to flip the screen upside down so that the other person sitting opposite can see it.
Display
The MSI Modern 14 B4MW sports a 14″ Full HD IPS Display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The laptop also sports the True Color Technology by MSI which gives the exact modes and colors as per your requirement. The True Color sRGB technology helps in content creation and color grading projects like graphics designing, video editing, etc. The device has extremely thin bezels with screen to body ratio of 90%. The viewing angles are also very comfortable.

Trackpad and Keyboard
Trackpad
The track pad is smooth and sturdy. It is very much responsive to gestures like pinch to zoom, double clicks, drags etc.
The track pad doesn’t wobble and stays stiff with no issues while using it.
Keyboard
The keyboard is one of the best you can find in any ultrabook. The keyboard is white backlit which helps you use the laptop in the dark. The keys have a lot of travel and it really feels great typing on it. The key sizes resemble that of MSI Gaming Laptops. So typing on this laptop is a breeze.
Connectivity & Ports
On the left side of the laptop, you will get to see HDMI Port, USB type C port, Micro SD Card Reader, and a Headphone/Microphone Combo Jack. Coming to the right side of the laptop you will have access to two USB 3.2 Ports and the Charging port.
Connectivity-wise, this laptop sports Wifi 5.0 and Bluetooth 5.0 so you can expect smooth internet connectivity and seamless file transfer via Bluetooth.
However, there aren’t any options for Ethernet Port on this laptop which is okay considering the size and thinness of the MSI Modern 14 B4MW.
Battery
The battery on the MSI Modern 14 B4MW is amazing. It sports a 52W/hr Lithium-Ion 3 Cell battery which on paper lasts up to 10 hours. You can charge the laptop two times a day and it will be more than enough. We did a quick testing of the battery and we found out that on Web Surfing we are getting around 9 hours of battery and more or less 7 hours for video playback which is very impressive.
Performance
The MSI Modern 14 B4MW laptop we have in hand is powered by the latest AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor which runs at 2.3Ghz base and 4.0Ghz boost. This 7nm processor is a Hexa Core processor with integrated AMD Vega 6 GPU.
The Ryzen 5 4500U scores around 962 points in 3D rendering beating out the same priced i5 10210U with 660 points. Adobe photoshop takes around 8.1 secs to load on AMD while 9.1 secs on Intel i5.
This isn’t a gaming laptop at all but it can run a few of the older games at low-medium settings at playable frame rates.
Tested the two most popular games and here are the results at 1080p.
Counter Strike Global Offensive – 66 FPS (LOW) // 46 FPS (NORMAL)
DOTA 2 – 86 FPS (LOW) // 49FPS (NORMAL)
The performance is very good and satisfactory for the price. The MSI Modern 14 B4MW laptop supports dual-channel memory. That means you already have an 8GB Stick installed in this device. You can choose to install another 8GB stick and make it 16GB or install two 16GBs to make it 32GB. The SSD is also up-gradable thus making this laptop usable for the next 4-5 years.
Thermals
The thermals are well maintained on this MSI Modern 14 B4MW. The temperatures don’t go past 82 degrees while maintaining the same amount of heavy workload for more than 15-20mins. This laptop has the ergo-lift feature which maximizes airflow into the system and the presence of Vents allows maximum air intake into the system thus prevents overheating.

Conclusion
Overall, the MSI Modern 14 B4MW it’s a fantastic laptop. Within the price bracket of Rs.50000 to Rs.60000 this is the best laptop you can buy right now. Comes with a warranty of 1 Year and a 3months free restriction once you register the product online. Warranty can also be extended now with the MSI Warranty Extension Package. Also comes with Windows Home 10 & MSI’s Creator Center software pre-installed. The Webcam shoots at 720p and the quality is pretty good. Overall a great package. A great device. And certainly, a device that will serve you for the next 4-5 years, if used with proper care.
