I think this is the first time we have seen an AMD Ryzen based laptop with a touch screen display. If you know any other last-generation laptops with the same combination let us know in the comments down below.

Dell Inspiron 15 5515 Price and Availablity

The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop is now available in the US at starting price of $699 with configurations with 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM. It is also listed on various online shopping websites like Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, etc. The model we have here is an upgraded version with starting price of $899 with 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM. You can also buy the lower version if you are looking to get the basic job done.

Some variations of the Dell Inspiron 15 AMD models also come equipped with AMD Ryzen 5 5500U and AMD Ryzen 3 5300U Processors which would be mainly targeted at basic level users. With all the Insprion 15, Dell is now shipping laptops equipped with SSDs so that you will have a good experience even if you buy the lower-end models. Also, keep an eye out on Dell’s official website, they sometimes run sale ads where you will be able to purchase these laptops at a much better deal directly from Dell.

Dell Inspiron 15 AMD Laptop Build Quality

As far as the design is concerned, the Dell Inspiron 15 AMD Laptop features a body made up of anodized aluminum. The color is Charcoal black and can be a major fingerprint magnet. The lid has a matte finish with a glossy Dell logo embossed on the top. The laptop is lightweight with a heavy plastic base to ensure opening the laptop with one hand. The hinge is a little bit on the sturdy side but that will not harm ta experience anyway. There is a slight little flex to the display as well but that is totally fine as it will be able to withstand the shocks when you are on the go.

The laptop deck feels solid with a full-size keyboard and a touchpad. The 15.6-inch touch screen is surrounded by thin bezels on all four sides. The bezels are extremely narrow which gives a wide view experience to all the Inspiron 15 Dell users. Considering the price and specifications, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series Laptop is one of the best both in terms of build quality and features when it comes to the other competitors. The Inspiron 5515 Laptop left no room for criticism when it comes to rigidity, stability, and durability.

Dell Inspiron 15 AMD Laptop Display

The Dell Inspiron 15 5515 Laptop features a 15.6 inch Touch Screen IPS Full HD panel with a resolution of 1920×1080. The display also features an antiglare matte finish which would be extremely useful whenever you are planning to use this laptop under direct lighting conditions. The colors look a little bit bland though. It is most likely to be a major deal-breaker. It will be having some amount of backlight bleed as well. But it shouldn’t affect the regular workflow as the bleed is not noticeable on a bright screen.

The touch functionality, however, works pretty well without a hitch and the matte finish is a pretty nice add-on to the laptop. Normally touchscreen laptops come with a glossy finish touch screen display. Dell Inspiron 15 has the edge over here in terms of touch functionality. The viewing angles are good and even if you move 30 degrees away the images would still look sharp and clear.

Here are some metrics of the Dell Inspiron 15 5515 Laptop

  • sRGB Coverage – 56%
  • Adobe RGB Coverage – 39%
  • DCI P3 – 40%

The display on this laptop is not so great and color-sensitive tasks like Photoshop are because of the poor color accuracy. This laptop is best suited in the classroom or a college scenario where you will be able to take down your notes quickly and be creative with Painting applications., It is mainly for those people who would want to simply surf the internet, watch movies, do word processing, etc.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Keyboard and Trackpad

The Dell Inspiron 15 features a full-sized keyboard with a dedicated number pad. The keyboard is fully backlit and the keys are well spaced out with a good amount of feedback. But unlike MSI Prestige 14 Laptop, the key travel is a little less than the Prestige 14. The keyboard is white backlit with three levels of brightness using the Fn+F5 keys. It is not much noticeable in the daytime, but it works really well in the dark. It also has a full array of multimedia keys on the top as well.

The trackpad is decent and the quality is quite nice. It is not the best trackpad we have used but yes it is much better than the plastic touchpads which are mostly found on the other laptops. The laptop responds well to gestures like pinch to zoom, double finger scrolling, etc. The right and left mouse button clicks are placed beneath the Dell Inspiron 15 AMD Laptop Touchpad.

Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop Connectivity and Ports

For the IO, on the left side of the laptop, you would get an HDMI 1.4 port, a USB Type-A port, and a USB Type C Port. Sadly there is no thunderbolt port on this laptop. The USB Type C port supports DisplayPort and PD charging as well. On the right-hand side, there is a single USB A Slot with a full-size SD card reader with a dedicated headphone microphone combo jack.

On the wireless side of things, this Dell Inspiron 5515 Laptop features the Intel Wi-Fi chip which supports the 802.11 WiFi6 Standards and provides all-new Bluetooth 5.1 for seamless file transfers and audio playback.

Dell Inspiron 15 5515 Laptop- Battery, Webcam and Speakers

The Dell Inspiron 15 AMD Laptop features a 54W/hr battery. The laptop also has a 65W charger to fill up the juice in the hour of need. It is kind of a small battery but the battery life is really great, thanks to the all-new AMD Ryzen 7 5700U Processor. These are some of the runtime charts.

  • Idle, WiFi On, Screen 0% = ~15 hours
  • Word Processing, Screen 30%, Wifi On -= ~8 hours
  • FHD Binge Watching on Chrome, Screen 30% = ~9 hours
  • Heavy Browing, Performance Mode, Screen 30% = ~5 hours
  • Gaming, Screen 30%, Performance mode – ~1 hour

The Dell Inspiron 15 features a 0.9MP webcam that can shoot videos at 720p. But the low light shots on the camera are super grainy and it also lacks colors. The camera is decent for casual video calls and video chats. It can serve a good purpose for online classes and Microsoft teams meetings only if the lighting is good. There is also a physical webcam shutter built on the lid for more privacy.

Inspiron 15 5515 features a set of downward-facing speakers. The maximum volume is decent at 72dB. The speakers have decent mids and trebles. Most of the laptops we have reviewed earlier, most of them had a more trebly effect when playing any media through the laptop speakers. But this laptop pushes a good amount of bass and thump which is not bad for such tiny speakers and even for the competitors as well.

The Dell Inspiron 15 AMD Laptop doesn’t feature any dedicated GPUs onboard. The graphics on this laptop will be taken care of by AMD Raden Graphics which has a core count of 8 and a Graphics frequency of 1900Mhz. Obviously, this GPU cant run Crysis at 4K. But it would definitely give you an edge when it comes to light gaming.

Here are some of the Dell Inspiron 15 5515 GPU Benchmarks.

The laptop comes equipped with a 512GB/1TB NVMe SSD which accelerates the performance by a huge margin. It is a really good deal for most people with the price being a major consideration factor when it comes to the competition.

Dell Inspiron 15 AMD Thermals

The thermals on this laptop are maintained by a single fan with a couple of heat pipes for cooling the Processor. The fan takes the cool air from the bottom of the laptop and exhausts it from one of the vents that is present on the bottom of the display. Although we didn’t like the inclusion of a single fan as well as the vent placements. The CPU stays cool throughout and even under extreme loads like the Cinebench loop it didn’t go past 72 degrees. Even having not-so-great cooling features and a single fan inclusion, this laptop still manages to pull out surprising test results.

Should I buy a Dell Inspiron 15 AMD Ryzen 7 Laptop?

Yes, you should. Why? It is actually an all-rounder when it comes to performance. Firstly I would start with the design and build quality. Dell kept its name again with the Inspiron 15 featuring the anodized aluminum body which is extremely durable and lightweight. Secondly with the inclusion of the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U Processor, which is an eight-core beast. The onboard Graphics on this laptop is capable of handling games like Doom at decent frames per second. That means you can enjoy esports titles like Counter-Strike, Valorant, Dota 2, etc at ease with medium to high settings.

The thermals are extremely well maintained on the laptop despite having a single fan. The keyboard and the trackpad are nice. The touch screen display is extremely responsive with a matte finish which works as an Anti-Glare display. Talking about the negatives, the color reproduction is not up to the mark and the color corrected metrics are not suitable for content creation like Graphic Designing and Video Editing. The webcam is not up to the mark and there is no inclusion of Windows Hello features like Face Recognition. But the Fingerprint reader makes up for that loss. Although it would serve as an excellent laptop for using in class or colleges. This laptop would provide long hours of entertainment and the touch screen feature does add up in enriching the experience.

Also don’t forget to pick up a good quality water-resistant laptop backpack, just in case!

That’s all for now
Until next time.

  1. Thanks. Trying to decide on a laptop in a certain price range with my girlfriend so we can play old games together (also her old one is getting a bit slow). This review was exactly what I needed to know.
