What is so special about the ROG Electro-Punk Edition?

With the ROG Electro-Punk Edition, ASUS took the game further and gave away their premium quality ROG XXL Speed Edition Mouse Mat and a ROG Strix Impact II Electro Punk Gaming Mouse!

ASUS bundled a ROG Strix Impact II Electro Punk Gaming Mouse and this Strix G15 Electro Punk Edition. The Mouse is a premium quality Gaming mouse with an ambidextrous & ergonomic shape. It’s lightweight, and the button gives a tactile feel while gaming. The ROG glides are flexible, and the feet is smooth, accurate and fast. The cable is lightweight as well. You can quickly grab some flick shots with this mouse. And yes, you can play with various colors as this mouse is Asus Aura Sync Compatible. You can sync your Laptop’s lighting with the Mouse lighting as well.

ASUS also bundled the ASUS ROG Sheath Electro Punk Large Gaming Mousemat. The mousemat features excellent grips with an anti-slip rubber base, plus the smooth gaming optimized cloth makes gliding on this mousemat like a feather. The anti-fray stitched frame will ensure more extended durability, and the threads will not come out loose from the sides, unlike low-quality Gaming mousemats. We must admit the Electro Punk color looks and goes very well with the mouse and the Asus ROG Strix G15 G512LI Electro Punk Edition Laptop.

Pricing and Availability

The Asus ROG Strix G15 G512LI base model is available for $999 and is available globally. A step from the base models with a RAM upgrade will be around $1299. And if you want an RTX GPU, you might have to shell out more than $1499. The laptops are pretty much well worth the price and the performance you would get is incredible. Apart from the price, you also get a lot of ROG accessories as well. The ASUS ROG Strix G15 G512LI is now available worldwide with various online and retail partners.

Design and Aesthetics

The Electro Punk edition has a big Pink ROG eye logo on the aluminum lid with an electric pink colored trim surround the entire lid. There is a cutout at the display base to make way for the power and battery-led indicators. The finish on the lid is brushed aluminum, and it’s very rigid and sturdy. Behind the lid, there is a thick cartridge-type area that houses all the necessary ports. Asus did an excellent job following Lenovo’s footsteps of giving the majority of the ports at the back of the laptop for better cable management. The laptop might look a bit bulky bu,t the performance and features make up for it.

Once opening the lid, we get to see the RGB light bar, which runs on the laptop’s bottom, lights up. The single-zone RGB backlit keyboard and the pink WASD keys add great detail to the aesthetics department. The touchpad also has a pink trim around it. There is ROG Branding on the laptop’s deck as well in pink, and it looks stunning. The bezels are incredibly slim on all three sides, but there is no webcam included with the laptop. The laptop weighs around 5.2 pounds only and ASUS made this laptop fairly thin for better portability.

Asus ROG Strix G15 G512LI Display

The display on the Asus ROG Strix G15 G512LI is pretty impressive for the price. The Display is a 1920×1080 resolution 15.6 inch IPS panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, although 240hz versions are also available. The colors are very vibrant and look epic when gaming. You can expect a brightness of around 251 nits which fall below their very own G5 15, which possesses a much higher 301 nits of brightness.

From the point of Color calibration, the ASUS Strix G15 covers almost 64% of sRGB Color Gamut, which is low compared to the average lowest of 67%. You can do video editing or coding on it, but Color Correction and Photo color correction can be a big no from our side because of the poorly calibrated display. However, you can hook up an external high-end Display with features like 100% sRGB and IPS Panels via the HDMI port.

Connectivity and Ports

You will get to see three USB Type-A Ports and a headphone/microphone combo jack on the left side of the Asus ROG Strix G15 G512LI Gaming laptop. There arent no ports on the right side. Asus followed Lenovo’s footsteps and installed most of the ports at the back of the laptop, which ensures proper cable management. You will get to see an RJ45 Port for Internet connectivity at the back of the laptop, a USB Type Connector, an HDMI port, and one Charger port. But ASUS didn’t provide any DP Port, which will be an issue if we want to run an external 144hz monitor as HDMI doesn’t support a refresh rate of more than 75Hz.

For the connectivity side of things, the Asus G512LI Gaming Laptop features the latest Intel Wifi 6 for uninterrupted internet access and Bluetooth 5.1 for seamless file transfer.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The keyboard is a single Zone RGB backlit keyboard which can be controlled via the ASUS Aura App. It helps you customize the lighting of the laptop using various modes like breathing strobing or Rainbow. You can also sync your RGB lighting with music. The keyboard is excellent, and the palm rest feels comfortable when you are using this keyboard. There are pink WASD Gaming-specific keys present on the laptop. The key travel is decent, and you will have an excellent typing and gaming experience using this keyboard.

The Trackpad is quite soft and smooth, with the pink border outlining the touchpad area. There are two dedicated left and right mouse buttons present, and they have a soft click on them. The trackpad is smooth and responsive. The Windows 10 features like two-finger scrolling, three-finger tabbing works well with the pre-installed Precision drivers.

Webcam, Battery and Speakers

For the Webcam, we are sorry, but ASUS ROG Laptops don’t come with Webcams anymore. But if you are looking to buy one, check out our list for Top 5 Webcams that you can buy right now on Amazon.

The side-firing speakers are decent but lack the bass response that most of us would look for while listening to music and playing games. However, you can use your Headphones and fire up the Sonic Studio III app that comes with the ASUS ROG Strix G512LI Gaming Laptop, where you can tweak the settings like voice clarity and bass treble, and surround sound. But you won’t be able to hear any difference even if you dial up all the settings to the top if you are using the speakers.

ASUS ROG Strix G512LI charger

The battery life is where the ASUS ROG Strix G512LI falls back. The laptop exhausts its total capacity within 5 hours of web surfing over wifi and brightness of around 155nits. The average time that a Gaming laptop should run with similar scenarios for approximately 6 hours or less. So it would help if you also keep your laptop connected to the charger to use the Strix G15 in its full power mode. But don’t expect much from the laptop if you are running without a charger.

The Asus ROG Strix G512LI Gaming laptop does get a little hot, but the thermal solution is very good with big fans and two heat pipes to drive the heat of the internals. The large radiator at the back helps in better heat dissipation as well. As we have noticed, with 15 minutes of Youtube video and working, the temperature reaches almost 90 degrees, which is hot but not that much. The machine does get extremely hot at the bottom right corner, but there will be no instances of thermal throttling.

One quick tip to everyone that once they get their new Gaming laptops, purchase a new thermal paste from brands like Corsair, Cooler Master, Thermaltake, Kryonaut etc. and take it to your nearest Service Center. Ask them to apply the thermal paste, and your system will run cooler and faster than before.

Software and Support

ASUS bundles the Strix G15 with the Windows 10 (Free upgrade to Windows 11) Operating System. Apart from that, you will have the Armoury Crate App. This is a universal app, and you can control everything on your own using this App and starting from Fan Settings, keyboard customization & lighting. The App also helps you set profiles for Gamers. The My ASUS App provides information and hardware issue solutions. Bloatware is familiar with Windows, and this time they added the Farm Heros Saga, HULU and Disney Magic Kingdoms.

The Laptop carries a one-year limited warranty. You can increase your laptop warranty by contacting the manufacturer and paying them a certain sum of money to increase your Warranty.

The ASUS Strix G15 is an excellent laptop for the price. It handles pretty much everything at Medium to High settings and sometimes at low as well. The Electro Punk Edition does have that electric pink aesthetic to it, which will be a significant head turner when you are using the Strix G15 in public. So apart from the aesthetics, this laptop has a perfect Gaming specific 144Hz display and an excellent design. But the Asus ROG Strix G512LI is one of the most rigid and durable laptops we have ever used here at Techuda.
